My wife Jolie and I started
climbing in August of 1999. We were given 2 free passes to a local
gym for our wedding and the rest is history. We started climbing
on ropes, but after about two years of floundering around on those
silly strings we found Bouldering and we've been addicted ever
since. Why? Well, it's pretty simple for me; I never got to the
top of a route and said to myself, wow, that was fun. I was always
just glad I made it up with out decking or seriously injuring
myself. For me, Bouldering was much more rewarding. I was able
to concentrate on the moves without thinking about the rope; I
could put together incredible and difficult series' of moves and
actually enjoy the climbing.
After finally getting
outside of the plastic hell we call a gym, I started taking still
photos. It wasn't long before I made the transition to video.
Video, to me, seems to capture the essence of bouldering . . .
the physicality of the moves, the linking of sequences, and the
entire atmosphere of road trips and my crew. My "go to" bouldering
area is without a doubt the Gunks. Just about every weekend you
can find me climbing/filming somewhere at the Trapps, Nears or
Peters Kill. If Jolie and I aren't at the Gunks, we are likely
at Haycock or one of the other lovely Diabase climbing areas in
good old PA. I recently got indoctrinated, and soon fell in love
with the sandstone bouldering of West Virginia; both the New River
Gorge areas and Cooper's Rock. Jolie and I, and whomever else
in the crew can get away, hit the road (or the air, as the case
may be) a few times a year to pull down in Bishop, Hueco, Squamish,
Boone, or Rocktown. Yawn, that is me in a nutshell... Overall,
if I am not climbing or working, I am sitting in front of one
of these machines...
